Affected residents formed a human chain in Islampur, Jamalpur, demanding immediate action to prevent erosion by the Jamuna River. The protest took place at Kodaldhoa Ghat on Wednesday noon, with participation from erosion victims across multiple locations.

Protesters urged authorities to take swift measures to stop the river’s encroachment.

Recent reports indicate severe erosion along the southern embankments of the Jamuna River, affecting areas including Katapur Bazar, Kodaldhoa, Rajarpur Rayerpara, and Airamari in Islampur Upazila.

Croplands are being swallowed by the river, while five villages, six educational institutions, and two Eidgah grounds face imminent threat.

Hundreds of acres of farmland, homes, and infrastructure like bridges and culverts risk disappearing into the river. Locals have called for urgent intervention to address the crisis.
