Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman warned party leaders and activists on Friday that they were now under the “searchlights” of both Allah and the public as the party is increasingly being viewed as a contender for state power.
He made the remarks while addressing a conference of district, upazila and thana-level ameers from the Rangpur-Dinajpur region at the Rangpur Model College auditorium around 12pm.
The programme was chaired by Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and regional director Maulana Abdul Halim.
Shafiqur said Jamaat was once viewed only as an effective political party, but perceptions had now changed. “Previously, no one thought Jamaat would be a contender for power. Now many believe you will be competitors for power,” he said.
He warned party activists to remain careful in their personal conduct and financial dealings, saying their activities were now under intense scrutiny.
“Not even a single hair follicle will remain outside the reach of these searchlights,” he said.
Using the analogy of white clothes, the Jamaat chief said even a small stain becomes clearly visible.
“You are the white cloth. If there is a stain, there will be trouble,” he said.
He also said establishing the laws of Allah in the country would not be possible without public support and trust.
“When people believe the country and their faith are safe with you, support will flow like rivers meeting to form an ocean,” he added.
Shafiqur Rahman arrived in Rangpur around 9am on a one-day visit and received a guard of honour from Rangpur Metropolitan Police at the Circuit House.
Jamaat Central Leader and Assistant Regional Director Maulana Momtaz Uddin and Regional Management Committee member Mahbubur Rahman Belal MP also addressed the conference.
After the morning session and Jummah prayers, the Jamaat ameer inaugurated a mosque.
He is also scheduled to attend a Suhi Samabesh as chief guest at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium at 4pm.
