Jamaat-e-Islami, Bangladesh Ameer Shafiqur Rahman is scheduled to undergo bypass surgery on Saturday at United Hospital in Dhaka, after being diagnosed with three major blockages in his heart earlier this week.

Party sources said Rahman underwent a series of medical tests on Wednesday, which revealed the blockages. Based on doctors’ advice, the decision was made to proceed with the surgery.

In a post on Jamaat’s official Facebook page, Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar called on supporters in Bangladesh and abroad to pray for Rahman’s swift recovery and the success of the procedure.

“We request everyone to offer prayers for the leader’s health and successful treatment,” Parwar wrote. Rahman fell ill unexpectedly on July 19 while addressing Jamaat’s national rally at Suhrawardy Udyan. He was immediately taken for medical attention and underwent preliminary examinations that same day.
