Despite Bangladesh’s 2–1 ODI series loss to Sri Lanka, several individual performances have been rewarded in the latest ICC rankings update published on 9 July.
Wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali made the biggest jump among Bangladesh batters, climbing 32 places to 59th after scores of 51, 24 and 27 in the three matches. Coming in at number seven in the first ODI, Jaker resisted collapse with a 64-ball 51, followed by handy contributions in the remaining two matches, scoring 102 runs in total at an average of 34.
Middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy also progressed in the rankings, moving up 7 spots to 51st. After scoring just 1 in the opening match, Hridoy hit 51 in each of the next two games, finishing as Bangladesh’s second-highest run-scorer in the series with 103 runs at an average of 34.33.
Opener Tanzid Hasan, who struck 62 off 61 balls in the first match, rose 19 places to 86th. However, not all Bangladeshi batters had positive shifts.
Najmul Hossain Shanto dropped 6 spots to 34th after a string of poor scores. Litton Das, dropped after a duck in the first match, fell 8 places to 78th. Mehidy Hasan Miraz also slipped 5 places to 72nd, having scored just 37 runs across the three games.
Outside the top 50, Soumya Sarkar dropped 7 spots and now shares 85th position with Tanzid.
Among the bowlers, Tanzim Hasan Sakib made notable gains. He took 6 wickets in the series and rose 18 spots to 92nd. Taskin Ahmed, who claimed 6 wickets across the three matches including 4 in the opener, moved up 2 places to 26th — the highest-ranked Bangladeshi bowler.
Left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam impressed with 5 wickets in Bangladesh’s only win and one each in the other two matches. Despite this, he remains outside the top 100 in the ICC rankings.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz dropped one place to 29th, while Mustafizur Rahman fell 11 places to 46th.
Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, the series’ top wicket-taker with 9 scalps, jumped 11 places to 8th in the ODI bowling rankings. Teammates Dunith Wellalage and Asitha Fernando also moved up to 31st (up 5) and 36th (up 23) respectively.
India’s Shubman Gill remains at the top of the ODI batting rankings with 784 rating points, followed by Babar Azam (766), Rohit Sharma (756), Virat Kohli, and Daryl Mitchell.
In the Test rankings, Jaker Ali rose 1 spot to 65th. Mushfiqur Rahim dropped to 30th but remains the highest-ranked Bangladeshi batter. Mominul Haque slipped to 53rd.
There were major shifts at the top as well. England’s Harry Brook regained the number one position after scoring 158 in the Edgbaston Test against India, overtaking Joe Root, who dropped to second. Gill’s twin centuries (269 and 161) in the same match helped him rise 15 places to 6th , his career-best Test ranking.
England’s Jamie Smith, who made 184 and 88 in that Test, rose 16 places to 10th.
But the biggest leap came from South African captain Wiaan Mulder. His unbeaten 367 against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo took him up 34 places to 22nd in the Test batting rankings. He also rose 12 spots to 3rd among Test all-rounders, behind only Ravindra Jadeja and Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
In the Test bowling rankings, Taijul Islam moved up one place to 15th. The top three , Jasprit Bumrah, Kagiso Rabada, and Pat Cummins remain unchanged.
