An Israeli strike has claimed the lives of 16 people in Gaza on Monday.
The deceased were identified by local health authorities to be mostly women and children.
The school-turned shelter is located in Jabaliya area, the Gaza Strip. Gaza Health Ministry’s emergency service has said five children and four women were among the deceased and a number of people were wounded, reports AP.
Amid the ongoing war, Gaza’s schools have been converted to shelters which in turn became a major target for the Israeli military, despite them denying accusations of targeting civilians.
Recent attacks come in time for the U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit to the Middle East, specifically Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening as it has gone through a 10-week blockade on food and aid, after Israel ended a brief ceasefire ended two months ago.
