BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has demanded immediate resignation of LGRD adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain and Information adviser Mahfuz Alam alleging that they are deeply involved with a political party.
In his verified Facebook page he raised this demand. “Following democratic norms and political etiquette, on reasonable grounds, I urge adviser Asif Mahmud and adviser Mahfuz Alam to resign and quit from all responsibilities of the interim government, ” he said.
“As it is obvious that both of you are associated with a political party and you will also take part in the forthcoming election. Do you think demand for your resignation is not justified? Or this would be the perfect step and this would also resolve all political controversy,” the post continued.
Recently court has given verdict in favour of Ishraque Hossain as Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation. His supporters became enraged, as due to other legal complications, his ascension to Mayoral chair is being delayed. They are staging protest rally in and around Nagar Bhaban for the last six consecutive days to ensure Ishraque’s ascension. The protest rally created severe traffic congestion along with shutting down of all civic service offered by Nagar Bhaban.
Ishraque said, “Do follow what Nahid Islam did. Nahid could have stayed as adviser for prolonged period of time and afterwards join NCP. Sarjis Alam and Hasnat Abdullah could also hold adviser position if they could demand strongly,” adding that they have chosen their path as they are determined to do politics. “May be one day, if voted to power, they will become full minister with responsibilities, power and prestige associated with those post.”
Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud has criticised the ongoing protests at Nagar Bhaban, labelling the movement to hand over mayoral responsibilities to BNP-backed Ishraque Hossain as a “forceful attempt to take control” of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) headquarters.
“If you two resign that will contribute towards the neutral image of the interim government, ” Ishraque added on the facebook.
