Interpol requested to issue red notices for top AL leaders

The Chief Prosecutor’s Office of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has requested Interpol to issue red notices to arrest 10 former top leaders of Awami League, including Obaidul Kader and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal.

Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam told reporters on Thursday (April 10) that 339 complaints have been submitted to the tribunal so far on charges of genocide and forced disappearances.

Of these, 39 are under investigation and charges have been framed in 22 cases. Out of a total of 141 accused, 54 have been arrested, while 87 are still absconding.

The Chief Prosecutor said: The red notice requests have been sent seeking Interpol’s cooperation to arrest the fugitives.

Individuals against whom Interpol’s red notices have been sought are:

Obaidul Kader, AL general secretary and former Minister

Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Home Minister

Dr. Hasan Mahmud, former Foreign Minister

AKM Mozammel Haque, former Liberation War Affairs Minister

Jahangir Kabir Nanak, former Textiles and Jute Minister

Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, former Education Minister

Mohammad Ali Arafat, former State Minister for Information & Broadcasting

Nasrul Hamid Bipu, former State Minister for Power

Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, former Mayor of Dhaka South City

Tarek Ahmed Siddiqui, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Security Adviser.
