Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, currently visiting China, met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing on Monday.
The meeting marked a significant step towards improving bilateral relations between the two neighboring powers.
In a post on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Jaishankar shared details of the meeting, stating, “Glad to call on Vice President Han Zheng in Beijing today upon arrival. India supports China’s presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). We have seen considerable progress in our bilateral ties. Hope that the discussions during my visit will sustain this positive momentum.”
Jaishankar emphasized that the discussions were focused on enhancing mutual cooperation and maintaining a peaceful and constructive trajectory in bilateral relations.
Both leaders expressed confidence that the dialogue held during the visit would help reinforce trust and stability between the two nations.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Jaishankar described the current global situation as “extremely complex,” noting, “As neighboring nations and major economies, it is essential for India and China to maintain open dialogue and exchange perspectives.”
He is expected to meet Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi for bilateral talks during his stay.
Jaishankar arrived in Beijing to join a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference after concluding an official visit to Singapore.
This marks his first visit to China in five years, alluding to the significance of the trip amid evolving regional and global dynamics.
