The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has allegedly pushed 23 individuals—including women and children—into Bangladesh through the Thakurgaon border in Haripur upazila early Saturday morning. The group was later detained by members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
According to BGB sources, the illegal push-in took place through the Chapsara border of Bhaturia Union under Haripur upazila. The 42nd BGB Battalion operating in the area reported that BSF forced the group across the border around dawn, approximately 200 yards inside Bangladeshi territory near a place called Chaitranapukur, adjacent to main border pillar 347/1-S. Upon receiving information about the illegal crossing, a BGB patrol team quickly launched an operation and detained the group from the Chaitranapukur area. The detainees include four men, twelve women, and seven children.
They were later handed over to Haripur Police Station for questioning. During the preliminary interrogation, it was revealed that the individuals had been living inside India for an extended period. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Haripur Police Station, Jakaria Mondol, stated that efforts are underway to ascertain the identities of those detained. “Once we confirm their actual identities, appropriate legal steps will be taken,” he added.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the incident.
