Indian authorities on Sunday handed over the body of Pradeep Baidya, a Bangladeshi national killed by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) firing in Kulaura upazila of Moulvibazar.
Lt Col ASM Zakaria, commanding officer of BGB-46 Battalion in Srimangal, confirmed the handover. The body was received by Kulaura Police Station through the Chatlapur Land Port border.
Pradeep Baidya, a daily wage laborer from Dattagram village under Sharifpur Union, was fatally shot by BSF personnel along the India-Bangladesh border in Tripura’s Unakoti district around 8:30pm on Saturday. The handover occurred nearly 38 hours after the incident.
Kulaura Police Station’s Investigation Officer Sudipto Shekhar Bhattacharya stated the body would be released to the family after completing legal procedures.
Lt Col Zakaria confirmed the incident has been officially communicated to Indian BSF, with a battalion-level flag meeting scheduled for June 4 to discuss the matter.
