At least ten people, including four children, were pushed into Bangladesh by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on early Friday.
The incident occurred around 5am at the Panihata border under the jurisdiction of Ramchandrakura BOP in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur district.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Hasan of the Mymensingh Battalion and Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalitabari Police Station, Sohel Rana, the BSF members of India’s 22nd Battalion from Baburambill camp pushed the group into Bangladesh.
The group consisted of two men, four women, and four children. The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) confirmed that they were pushed in near border pillar 1118/3-S in the Panihata area.
The BGB detained them and brought them to the BGB camp for further processing.
The detainees are residents of Shahjadpur village in the Tala upazila of Satkhira district and belong to the same family. After their detention, they were handed over to Nalitabari Police Station.
According to BGB and police sources, the group had illegally crossed into India about two years ago and had been residing in New Delhi, working as laborers.
They were detained by the Indian police after the authorities found that they did not possess valid documents. A few days ago, they were airlifted from New Delhi to Guwahati. From there, the BSF members at Baburambill camp pushed them into Bangladesh.
Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Hasan and OC Sohel Rana of Nalitabari Police confirmed the push-in incident. According to Lt. Col. Mehedi, the group has been handed over to Nalitabari Police for further action.
OC Sohel Rana mentioned that the 10 people have been transferred to the police station, and necessary legal proceedings are underway.
