In a notification issued by the Indian Ministry of Commerce & Industry’s Commerce Department, the export of certain Bangladeshi goods have been banned through certain land ports.

The notifications details that exports from the ready-made garments (RMG) industry are restricted from any land port, and that “it is only allowed through Nhava Sheva and Kolkata seaports.”

Select Bangladeshi goods have also been banned from export into India’s northeastern states via their land ports and integrated check posts in Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Mizoram, Changrabandha, and Fulbari.

The notification has been issued with immediate effect.

This comes after the National Board of Revenue banned the import of several goods from India, Nepal, and Bhuran last month.

For all three countries, yarn and potatoes were banned from import. In the case of India, the list of products banned were larger and included mixed fabrics, newsprint, tobacco, bicycle and motor parts, radio and TV parts, among others.

According to customs sources at the time, the ban was imposed to protect local industries and to encourage competition amongst local enterprises.
