Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan has instructed party workers to prepare for a “major nationwide movement” to oust the current coalition government, his sister Aleema Khan conveyed to journalists outside Adiala Jail on Monday.
Aleema revealed three key concerns raised by the incarcerated leader: denial of basic prisoner rights for Imran Khan, only one phone call permitted with his children in eight months, and the prohibition on meeting his sisters.
The former prime minister, imprisoned since August 2023 following his April 2022 ouster, also faces restrictions on receiving books and being examined by his personal physician, Aleema added.
Despite calling for protests, PTI has reportedly resumed backchannel negotiations with the government. Party Chairman Barrister Gohar and adviser Barrister Saif are leading these efforts, though KP Information Adviser Barrister Saif denied any “formal” talks.
The dialogue initiative follows PM Shehbaz Sharif’s National Assembly invitation for political reconciliation. Imran has consented to negotiations but insists on closed-door discussions for substantive outcomes.
