In a press release, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change revealed that Gazipur district administration has sealed an illegal polythene manufacturing factory in Kapasia and sentenced its owner, Abdul Awal (44), to three months’ imprisonment under the Environmental Conservation Act, 1995.
On Thursday morning, Executive Magistrate and Land Acquisition Officer Ishtiaq Ahmed of the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner’s office delivered the verdict while conducting a mobile court session.
Investigations revealed that Abdul Awal had been illegally producing banned polythene at his factory in Rautkona intersection of Kapasia Sadar Union for an extended period. Authorities raided the facility following specific allegations.
During the raid, officials discovered the factory manufacturing polythene from plastic pellets. The operation resulted in the seizure of polythene products, plastic raw materials, and production equipment.
Executive Magistrate Ishtiaq Ahmed stated, “This factory was causing severe environmental and public health hazards by producing banned polythene. Therefore, we’ve imposed imprisonment and sealed the facility as per law.”
Kapasia Police Station assisted in the operation. The convicted Abdul Awal was subsequently sent to Gazipur District Jail under police custody.
Additional District Magistrate Salma Akter confirmed that such anti-pollution drives by the district administration are ongoing and will continue in future.
