Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has instructed police officers near the border to stay on high-alert in order to prevent militants or terrorists from entering Bangladesh amid the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan.

The IGP shared this information at the police’s Annual Shooting Competition, organised by the Bangladesh Shooting Federation in Gulshan, where he was the chief guest.

While speaking to journalists after the event, Alam stated that police officers have been asked to remain vigilant, considering not only the increasing tension between India and Pakistan, but also brewing tensions alongside Bangladesh’s border with Myanmar.

AIG (Media) of Police Headquarters, Enamul Haque Sagar, said, “The IGP has issued instructions to ensure Bangladesh’s security is not compromised. Superintendents of Police (SPs) in 32 districts have been alerted and ordered to take necessary measures to guard against militants or terrorists entering the country.”

While the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is primarily responsible for border security, local police assist in overall surveillance.

A recent militant attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, on April 22, which killed 26 people, has escalated military tensions between India and Pakistan.
