ICT to decide on Abu Sayed murder indictments on Aug 6

The International Crimes Tribunal has fixed August 6 for framing charges in the crimes against humanity case related to the killing of July mass uprising martyr Abu Sayed.

On Wednesday, a three-member panel of ICT-2, headed by Justice Md Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, issued the order.

Government-appointed defence lawyers represented the fugitive accused during the hearing. Sujat Mia appeared for five accused, Mamunur Rashid for banned Chhatra League leaders, while Ishrat Jahan and Shahidul Islam also attended the proceedings. The prosecution was represented by Gazi MH Tamim and his colleagues.

Earlier on July 29, hearings were held for three accused: lawyer Aminul Gani Tito for Begum Rokeya University (BRU) Proctor Shariful Islam, lawyer Azizur Rahman Dulal for Constable Shujon Chandra Roy, and lawyer Salahuddin Rigan for Chhatra League leader Imran Chowdhury Akash. Bail petitions were filed for these three.

Meanwhile, police produced six accused before the tribunal from jail: ASI Amir Hossain, former BRU Proctor Shariful Islam, Constable Shujon Chandra Roy, Chhatra League leader Imran Chowdhury, Rafiul Hasan Rasel, and Anwar Parvez.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam presented specific allegations during the hearing.
