The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has granted prosecutors until July 14 to submit their investigation report into the killing of Abu Sayed, the Begum Rokeya University student who died during last year’s July uprising. During today’s hearing before the three-member tribunal bench headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, the prosecution sought additional time, citing pending formalities, though they confirmed the investigation itself had been completed.

Prosecutor SM Moynul Karim informed the court that, while the investigation officer had completed the probe, some procedural matters remained unfinished, with the report expected to reach the prosecution within two weeks. The tribunal approved the one-month extension request, setting the new submission deadline for July 14.

Among the eleven accused in the case, four are currently in custody: Shariful Islam, former proctor of Begum Rokeya University; Amir Hossain, former assistant sub-inspector of police; Sujan Chandra Roy, former constable; and Imran Chowdhury (alias Akash), a leader of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League. The tribunal has scheduled interrogations for these detainees, with Amir Hossain and Sujan Chandra Roy to be questioned on June 18, followed by Shariful Islam and Imran Chowdhury on June 19.

The case stems from last year’s July 16 incident when police opened fire during quota reform protests near Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur, resulting in Abu Sayed’s death.

In related developments, prosecutors informed the tribunal that investigators have been unable to locate the body of Muhammad Hridoy, a college student killed during the August 5 mass uprising in Gazipur. The tribunal had previously granted a two-month extension for submitting the investigation report into Hridoy’s death in Konabari, Gazipur, along with a related murder case from Jatrabari.

Separately, the tribunal cancelled the bail of Daud Sheikh, an accused in a 1971 war crimes case, and issued an arrest warrant after he failed to appear before the court on three consecutive hearing dates.
