Dilruba Akter, wife of murdered BNP leader Kamrul Ahsan Shadhon, recounted the final moments before her husband’s killing in Badda. “He returned home at around 9:45pm Sunday while I was praying,” she told Times of Bangladesh through tears. “I said I’d serve dinner after three remaining rakats. Then a call came – he locked the door from outside while talking and left. Within 20 minutes, we heard he had been shot. The food I kept after prayers remains untouched.”
Shadhon, joint convener of Gulshan Thana BNP, was gunned down near Gudaraghat Lane-4 around 10:15pm Sunday by masked assailants. Originally from Lakshmipur, the businessman-turned-politician ran Shodesh Communications and previously owned Desh Restaurant in Gulshan-1.
Dilruba described their 24-year marriage: “He never had disputes with neighbours or business/political rivals.” Shadhon typically left home by 10-11am, returning by midnight. That evening, he’d brought groceries – still unpacked when the call summoned him.
Crime scene details
The shooting occurred near “Aakash Phol Bitan” juice shop and “Hanif Variety Store” tea stall, where Shadhon sat with three BNP associates on plastic chairs. Police have cordoned the bloodstained area with wooden benches.
Eyewitness Kamrul Islam Babu, nephew of ex-ward commissioner Kaisar, recalled: “Shadhon was typing on his phone when two masked men fired indiscriminately. I crawled to safety as they fled, firing blanks.”
CCTV footage from nearby “Allegiance Beauty Parlor,” viral since Sunday night, captures the execution-style killing. Shodesh Communications caretaker Abul Hashem revealed Shadhon had just delivered two server boxes minutes before the attack.
The couple lived in a rented Badda house for 22 years, just two minutes from his office near Badda High School, located in the lane adjacent to where he was murdered.
