Litton Das hailed the character of his teammates and a key tactical switch after Bangladesh secured a landmark T20I series victory over Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Mahedi Hasan, drafted into the XI ahead of regular spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz, delivered a match-winning spell of 4 for 11, flattening Sri Lanka’s middle order and underlining the captain’s faith in surface-specific selection.

“It’s not that Mehidy Miraz was a bad player, but it was about the surface,” Litton explained after being named Player of the Series for his 114 runs across three matches. “I believed this surface suited Mahedi, so that’s why he played.”

Having lost the toss and been asked to bowl, Bangladesh made the most of the turning conditions. Mahedi’s tight spell throttled Sri Lanka’s scoring, allowing the visitors to chase a modest total and clinch a 2-1 series win—Bangladesh’s first T20I series triumph on Sri Lankan soil.

Reflecting on the team’s turnaround from a poor opening performance, Litton added: “The way our team played, I’m very happy. The boys showed their character, especially after how badly we played the first T20. This is a big achievement for Bangladesh, and this win will boost our cricket and the new generation. We have big dreams, and this helps us.”

Sri Lanka’s captain Charith Asalanka admitted he misread the pitch and rued missed opportunities with the bat: “We could have done a little better in the first half. Taken more responsibility in the middle with the bat.”

He remained defiant despite the disappointment: “This is sport and it can happen to every team. Important to look at the comeback.”
