Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has clarified that the reports of former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Habibul Awal’s arrest are incorrect.

He said the news published in media regarding the arrest of former CEC Habibul Awal is not correct and has not been arrested as of now.

But former chief election commissioner KM Nurul Huda was detained from his Uttara residence on Sunday evening, he added.

The adviser clarified the information while speaking to reporters during a visit to the Horticulture Centre in Mouchak, Gazipur on Monday morning.

However, Jahangir Alam termed the incident of mob violence against former CEC Nurul Huda unacceptable and said that if members of law enforcement agencies were involved in the incident, necessary steps would be taken after investigation.
