The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has expanded its restrictions on public assemblies by issuing a new notification that prohibits all forms of gatherings, rallies, processions, and demonstrations in the High Court area. This latest order, issued on Wednesday, specifically bans such activities near the chief justice’s official residence, Supreme Court buildings, Judges’ Complex, and several key access points including the Supreme Court’s main gate, Mazar gate, Jame Masjid gate, and the entrances to International Crimes Tribunals 1 and 2.

The restrictions will take effect from June 14 and also cover the road in front of the Judicial Administration Training Institute.

This marks the second such prohibition notice within a week, coming just four days after the DMP imposed similar restrictions around the chief adviser’s official residence Jamuna, Bangladesh Secretariat, and adjacent areas. The police authorities have simultaneously reiterated their appeal against road blockades that disrupt traffic flow, emphasising that protest activities must not impede normal vehicular movement.

The repeated issuance of prohibitory orders follows sustained political tensions and frequent demonstrations by various groups near government buildings, particularly after the July uprising that led to the ouster of the Awami League government. Police have been compelled to maintain heightened security measures in these sensitive zones, with the latest notification extending the security perimeter to include the judicial complex and its surroundings.
