Heavy downpour triggers waterlogging in Dhaka

Two days of heavy downpour have caused severe waterlogging in the capital bringing sufferings to the common people of the metropolis.

The rainfall, a result of “deep depression” brewed in the bay of Bengal, have caused mild to heavy downpour across the country and tidal surge in 14 coastal districts.

Different low lying areas and streets in the capital got submerged on Thursday evening adding sufferings to hundreds of commuters who had no access to vehicle.

Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) in a bid to ameliorate public suffering, has set up emergency control room on the second floor of its headqaurters . The DPHE control room is designed to serve residents of both Dhaka North and South City Corporations, reports UNB.

The initiative aims at providing emergency support and facilitate swift action in affected areas. 

Residents of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) are advised to contact Superintendent Engineer Faruk Hasan Al Masud at 0173982486 for assistance. Similarly, residents of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) can reach out to Superintendent Engineer Dr. Mohammad Shafiullah Siddique Bhuiyan at 01968468367.

Authorities urge the public to use these emergency numbers in case of urgent needs arising from the ongoing waterlogging.
