The International Crimes Tribunal-2 is set to hold a hearing on Monday, 28 July, to decide on charge framing against 30 accused, including several police personnel, in connection with the murder of Abu Sayeed — the first student martyr of the July uprising.

The tribunal bench, led by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, will hear arguments on whether formal charges should be brought against the accused in the killing of Abu Sayeed, a student of Begum Rokeya University.

On Friday, 25 July, six of the accused were produced before the tribunal under heavy security. They include former Assistant Sub-Inspector Amir Hossain, former constable Sujon Chandra Roy, former university proctor Shariful Islam, and individuals identified as Rafiul, Anwar Parvez, and banned Chhatra League leader Imran Chowdhury Ashek.

Earlier on 10 July, the court ordered a public notification for the remaining 26 accused, who are still absconding, directing them to appear before the tribunal.

According to the tribunal’s investigation agency, evidence linking all 30 individuals — including members of the police — to the killing was established on 30 June.

Abu Sayeed, a 12th batch student of the English department at Begum Rokeya University, was shot dead by police on 16 July during the anti-discrimination student movement, marking the first fatality of police fire in the July uprising.
