Chief Coordinator (Southern Region) of the National Citizen Party (NCP) Hasnat Abdullah has demanded the resignation of the health adviser to the interim government Nurjahan Begum.

He made this demand during a roadside rally of the “March for Nation Building in July” programme, held Wednesday afternoon in the Chandpur Bus Stand area.

He said, “There were high hopes from this government. After the uprising, we wanted to restructure the state system. But unfortunately, our healthcare system remains the same, and so does the law-and-order situation. Does anyone here even know the health adviser?”

“She came in through Yunus’s ‘bhai-brother’ quota and stands as the clearest example of Yunus’ nepotism. I’ve always said, there is no need for such a health adviser,” he added.

Hasnat, former convener of the Anti-Discrimination Movement, said that Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum “does not understand anything about the health system or medical care.”

He said, “Her only qualification is that she worked at Grameen Bank and is close to Muhammad Yunus. What are we to do with such a health adviser?”

The NCP leader further added, “She goes to Singapore for her own treatment. Since the public is paying her salary, she should return that money to the state treasury and resign from the post of health adviser without delay.”

Expressing grief over the tragic incident caused by the crash of a Bangladesh Air Force aircraft on the campus of Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, Hasnat said, “You saw yesterday – over dead bodies, this Awami League fascism is once again trying to return to politics. We, the anti-fascist political parties, are mourning. Everyone who holds the idea of Bangladesh in their heart is grieving.”

“But if the Awami League tries to rise again, we will turn our mourning into strength and eliminate this Awami League. Although we have already closed the chapter of the Awami League, if they try to return again, we will eliminate them. For this, we all need to stay alert,” he added.

Other speakers at the rally included NCP Central Chief Coordinator and Chandpur resident Nasiruddin Patwari, Chief Coordinator (Northern Region) Sarjis Alam, and Senior Joint Convener Samanta Sharmin.
