Hayley Williams, frontwoman of Paramore, stunned fans on Monday by quietly releasing 17 unreleased tracks on her personal website — only to remove them just over 24 hours later with a brief message: “Thank you for listening.”
Access to the surprise drop was granted through a code shared via Good Dye Young, Williams’ hair dye brand. Fans who logged in found a hidden page containing songs with titles like ‘True Believer’, ‘Mirtazapine’, ‘Hard’, ‘Negative Self Talk’, ‘Discovery Channel’ and ‘Zissou’.
A ‘Misc’ folder also included a 2017 live performance video from Phoenix, a lyric book image, and a “Hayley Williams is my favorite band” t-shirt design.
It is still unclear whether the songs form a cohesive album or are simply demos and standalone tracks. Williams’ last release was the collaborative single ‘I Like It I Like It’ with Moses Sumney earlier this year. Her solo discography includes two full-length albums — Petals for Armor (2020) and Flowers for Vases / Descansos (2021) — along with three EPs.
The unexpected song drop follows closely on the heels of Paramore’s 20th anniversary reissue of their debut album ‘All We Know Is Falling’. The new digital deluxe edition features the first-ever digital release of ‘The Summer Tic’ EP, previously only available on CD.
This milestone comes as Paramore enters a new chapter as an independent band, having parted ways with Atlantic Records in December. The band has since confirmed they are working on new material.
