After 15 long years, six painful final defeats, and 447 goals across 694 games, Harry Kane can finally call himself a champion. The England captain and former Tottenham talisman has ended his long wait for silverware, securing the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich—his first major trophy in professional football.

Kane, who joined Bayern in 2023 to chase the one thing that eluded him at Spurs, found himself at the centre of a footballing paradox. Regarded as one of the finest strikers of his generation, Kane’s career had been overshadowed by a glaring absence of silverware. For many, Kane and goals were synonymous—but so too, unfairly, were Kane and misfortune.

His move to Bayern was meant to change that narrative. In Munich, trophies are tradition. Yet, in a twist of irony, Kane’s first season at the club coincided with Bayern’s first trophyless campaign in over a decade, missing out on the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League. Whispers of a “curse” followed him into the new season.

But on Sunday night, that so-called curse was finally broken.

Kane wasn’t even on the pitch when his moment came. Bayern were handed the title after second-placed Bayer Leverkusen drew 2-2 with Freiburg, meaning they could no longer catch the league leaders with just two rounds remaining. The result left Bayern eight points clear and officially crowned them champions of Germany for a record-extending 34th time.

It wasn’t a straightforward journey to the title either. Just a day earlier, Kane had watched from the stands as Bayern squandered a 2–0 lead to draw 3–3 with Leipzig—delaying what would have been a fitting on-pitch celebration. The week before, Bayern could have sealed the title, but Leverkusen’s resilience denied them the chance.

Still, when confirmation came, Kane made the most of it. The long-awaited celebration saw him, champagne bottle in hand, singing along with teammates Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, and close friend Eric Dier. Videos posted on social media showed the jubilant group singing Bob Marley’s Three Little Birds, with Kane captioning posts: “We are champions” and “Together we win, together we celebrate.”

After years of heartbreak—including final losses in the Champions League, two League Cups, and with England at the Euros—Kane has finally tasted victory. The wait is over, the burden lifted.

Now, with the Bundesliga in the bag, the celebrations begin—and few in world football have earned it more.
