Nearly half of the capital Dhaka has been hit by load shedding, reportedly triggered by a failure in the national power grid in Narayanganj. This caused issues in the Rampura transmission line, leaving many parts of the city without electricity. Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) is working to fix the problem.
Areas including Gulshan, Banani, Hatirjhil, Magbazar, Karwan Bazar, Segunbagicha, Rajabazar, Farmgate, Madhubag, Bakshibazar, and Basabo experienced simultaneous power outages. A large portion of the capital went dark at 9:50pm.
PGCB informed media that a sudden technical fault at the Rampura 230/132 kV grid substation at 9:50pm disrupted power supply to parts of Dhaka.
The company stated that power grid engineers are working swiftly to resolve the issue.
As of 11:25pm on Sunday, when this report was filed, parts of Dhaka remained without electricity.
