BNP Standing Committee Member Selima Rahman on Tuesday said if BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia had compromised, she could have come to power long ago, but she did not do so.
She made the remarks while addressing a human chain organised by the Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS) in front of the National Press Club in the capital on Tuesday.
“When Khaleda Zia went to jail, she said save ‘the country, save the people.’ Tuesday, she is still fighting for democracy. So, she has been implicated in false cases,” she said.
Selima Rahman also mentioned that during the 2024 mass uprising, students, youths, workers, men, women and children all took to the streets.
“That day, children and students were killed. The responsibility for the murders lies with the then government who was forced to flee, but conspiracies are still being hatched.”
The BNP leader urged the artist community to stay alert, saying: “As artists, you will express the common life of the people through your art, their images, and their right to speak. Always speak out against injustice, fight for the people, their rights, and democracy.”
