Grameenphone named ‘Most Sustainable Telecommunication Company’

Grameenphone, the leading telecommunications provider in Bangladesh, has been awarded the ‘Most Sustainable Telecommunication Company of the Year’ at the SDG Brand Champion Awards 2025.

In addition to this prestigious win, Grameenphone was recognised in two other categories: SDG Brand Champion in Climate and Environment and SDG Brand Champion in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, says a press release.

The company also received honorable mentions in the SDG Brand Champion categories for Decent Work and Economic Growth and Women Empowerment.

The award ceremony, held recently at a city hotel, saw Grameenphone’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Tanveer Mohammad accepting the awards on behalf of the company.

Other senior officials, including Head of ESG Farhana Islam, Head of Customer Service Abdulla Al Mahmud, and Head of Corporate Portfolio Sharmin Rahman, were also present at the ceremony.

Grameenphone’s sustainability strategy aligns with both national development goals and the global SDG agenda, focusing on areas such as digital inclusion, youth upskilling, and climate action.

Tanveer Mohammad, Grameenphone’s Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, shared, “Our mission is to empower societies through digital connectivity that is inclusive, responsible, and sustainable. This recognition affirms our commitment to people-centric innovation and climate-conscious progress.”

Grameenphone has made notable contributions to digital literacy, training over 3.3 million people, with 68% of them being women. The company has also provided essential digital skills and online safety education to 4.7 million children and 25,000 teachers.

On the environmental front, Grameenphone has offset 47% of its electricity consumption with renewable energy, recycled 1,473 tons of e-waste, and fostered tech-based solutions to address the digital and climate gaps in Bangladesh.
