The Chief Adviser’s Office has strongly denounced recent media reports claiming the cancellation of freedom fighter status for Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and over 400 political leaders, terming them “false, baseless and misleading.”

At a press briefing held today at the Foreign Service Academy, Deputy Press Secretary Muhammad Abul Kalam Azad Majumder stated that the government expects concerned media outlets to rectify their erroneous reports and offer apologies to their readers and the nation for spreading misinformation.

“We expect the media outlets that published this incorrect and misleading report to issue corrections and apologise to their readers and to the people of Bangladesh who were misled by this news,” he added.

“The government has never granted anyone license to publish false information,” Majumder emphasised, adding that those responsible for spreading such false information will have legal actions taken against them.

The press conference was attended by the Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Senior Assistant Press Secretary Foyez Ahmed.
