The interim government is set to reassign ambassadors in three key diplomatic missions, the United States, Canada, and Switzerland, according to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Tareq Md Ariful Islam, currently serving as Bangladesh’s permanent representative to the UN in Geneva and ambassador to Switzerland, will be posted to the United States.

Nahida Sobhan, Bangladesh’s current high commissioner to Canada, is being reassigned to Geneva.

Meanwhile, former Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin is expected to be appointed as the new High Commissioner to Canada.

All procedures regarding the reshuffle have been completed. Both the US and Switzerland have issued agréments (formal approvals for diplomatic appointments), while Canada’s approval for Jasim Uddin is expected soon.

In May, Jasim Uddin was removed from his post as Foreign Secretary and succeeded by Asad Alam Siam, Bangladesh’s ambassador to Washington at the time. Although Jasim Uddin was initially considered for the US post, the interim government later opted to assign him to another country.
