The government has officially canceled the gazette recognition of eight individuals previously listed as martyrs of the July uprising. The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs issued the cancellation notice on Sunday, removing their names from the official list without citing specific reasons.

The revoked names include Musleh Uddin from Rampura, Dhaka (Gazette No. 224), Md. Khalilur Rahman Talukdar from Tangail (Gazette No. 229), Jinnah Miah from Narsingdi (Gazette No. 375), Shah Zaman from Doulatkhan, Dhaka (Gazette No. 611), Md. Roni from Savar (Gazette No. 766), Tauhidul Alam Jisan from Narayanganj (Gazette No. 818), Bashir Sardar from Patuakhali (Gazette No. 823), and Badhan from Shariatpur (Gazette No. 836).

A ministry source revealed that the families of the deceased had allegedly submitted false information to secure their inclusion in the martyrs’ list. The cancellation was enforced under the Welfare and Rehabilitation of July Uprising Martyrs’ Families and July Fighters Ordinance, 2025, along with the Rules of Business.

Earlier, the government had recognized 844 individuals as July uprising martyrs through two separate gazette notifications. The documents detailed their personal information, including gazette numbers, medical case IDs, family details, and addresses.

Families of officially recognized martyrs currently receive a one-time payment of 30 lakh taka and a monthly stipend of 20,000 taka. They also benefit from employment quotas in government jobs and rehabilitation programs. The sudden removal of these eight names has sparked questions, with authorities yet to provide further clarification on the verification process or evidence of fraud.
