The interim government has launched the ‘July Uprising Directorate’ to preserve the legacy of the historic July Uprising, ensure the welfare and rehabilitation of the families of those martyred and injured, and institutionalize the values of the uprising within the state framework.

A gazette notification regarding the formation of the directorate was published on Tuesday by the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.

According to the notification, the directorate’s primary objectives include safeguarding the ideals of the July Uprising, supporting and rehabilitating the families of the martyrs and injured participants, and embedding the spirit of the uprising into national life and state institutions.

Previously, on April 28, the interim government had issued a separate gazette forming the directorate. Following the decision of the Advisory Council meeting held on December 12 last year, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs issued a proclamation officially placing the directorate under its jurisdiction.

The organogram outlines that all activities of the July Uprising Directorate will be carried out under the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. Key functions will include maintaining a comprehensive list and database of those martyred or injured during the uprising, publishing official gazettes for recognition, and preserving mass graves.

The directorate will also engage in research, policy formulation, and historical preservation related to the July Uprising. In addition, it will organize and oversee commemorative activities.

The government has declared August 5 as July Uprising Day, to be observed annually. All affairs related to the uprising, including awareness programs, archival efforts, and support initiatives, will be coordinated through this new directorate.
