Government is working to prevent eavesdropping

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, special assistant to the chief adviser on Posts, Telecommunication and Information Technology, stated that the government is actively working to ensure the security of citizens’ personal information.

He said, “Efforts are being made to come to an acceptable solution regarding National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) to ensure that civil rights are not violated due to wiretapping”.

However, he didn’t explain in details about the steps are taking.

He made these remarks at a seminar titled ‘Youth Power: Language Movement of 1952 to Quota Reform Movement of 2024’ organised by ICT Division at the ICT tower in the capital’s Agargaon on Wednesday to mark ‘July Revolution Day’.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said, “Personal information of 55 million citizens has been leaked on dark website. It’s concerning. We are working on prioritizing the protection of citizens’ personal information. A policy draft regarding this matter will be provided within a month. Trying to create a National Data Governance. Work is also underway to ensure the data protection of citizens”.

He also discussed efforts to ensure a better life for those injured in the July uprising through training and skill development in information technology.

“To enhance the skills of the youth, plans are underway to provide training on ideas and start-ups in at least one school and one college in every upazila. Moreover, the Infrastructures that were constructed in the name of software park but were left unused will be utilised as a hub for skill development”, he further said.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb urged everyone, including government officials, to perform their respective responsibilities properly to build a new Bangladesh free from discrimination.

Among others, Shish Haidar Chowdhury, secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology division, Additional Secretary Mohammad Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan, Executive Director of Bangladesh Computer Council Muhammad Mehedi Hasan and Professor M Mesbah Uddin Sarkar of Jahangirnagar University also delivered their speeches at the seminar.
