The bodies of three individuals killed during clashes surrounding the National Citizen Party (NCP) rally in Gopalganj have been exhumed following a court order.
On Monday around 1pm, authorities began exhuming the bodies of Imon Talukder and Ramzan Kazi from Miapara Municipal Graveyard, transporting them to the morgue of Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital for autopsy. Separately, the body of Sohail Rana Mollah was exhumed from Tungipara graveyard.
The exhumation process was overseen by Executive Magistrate Rasel Munshi and Ronti Poddar, with officials including the Additional Police Superintendent (Crime and Ops), Sadar Police Station’s Acting Officer-in-Charge Mir Sajedur Rahman, SI Murad, SI Shahidul Islam, APBn police, and media personnel present.
This follows Wednesday’s clashes at an NCP rally which claimed five lives, four of which were buried without autopsies. Another victim, Ramzan Munshi, died during treatment in Dhaka on Thursday night and underwent postmortem at Dhaka Medical College morgue before being returned to relatives.
SI Murad Hossain and SI Shahidul Islam prepared the inquest reports for Ramzan Kazi and Imon Talukder before sending the bodies for autopsy.
The bodies are scheduled for reburial after autopsy.
Despite lifted curfew and Section 144 orders, shops remained closed Monday with minimal public movement, though foot traffic showed slight improvement from previous days.
The incident’s ripple effects continue in remote villages, maintaining an atmosphere of tension across the district.
