Global investment bank Goldman Sachs has appointed former UK prime minister Rishi Sunak as a senior adviser, amid ongoing geopolitical and regulatory uncertainties in the banking sector.
The appointment marks a significant return for Sunak, who began his professional journey at the firm.
Sunak initially joined Goldman Sachs as a summer intern in 2000, later working as an analyst from 2001 to 2004. His new role will involve providing strategic advice to global clients and offering insights into macroeconomic trends and geopolitical developments.
Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon said in a statement, “In this role, he will offer counsel on key global issues and share his unique perspective and analysis of macroeconomic and geopolitical matters.”
Sunak’s move reflects a well-established career trajectory, as former public officials often transition into the financial sector, where their policy experience and international networks are seen as valuable strategic assets.
