Once a celebrated actor, later a parliamentarian– Ferdous Ahmed has led a life in the limelight. After being elected Member of Parliament from Dhaka-10, the actor-turned-politician vanished from public view following the fall of the government. Now, from apparent self-exile, Ferdous has resurfaced in an unexpected way: through poetry.
A poem penned by Ferdous recently appeared on the Facebook timeline of his long-time friend and Indian actress Rituparna Sengupta. The post, dedicated to Ferdous on his birthday (June 7), stirred conversation in both artistic and political circles.

Sharing a screenshot of the handwritten poem, Rituparna wrote: Wishing a very happy birthday to my dear friend and family member Ferdous. Thank you for this beautiful gift– our poem.
The poem was reportedly written to celebrate the success of Rituparna’s recent film ‘Puraton’, released in April. She revealed that Ferdous was supposed to attend a special screening of the film.
“This poem was sent to bless the success of ‘Puraton’, which makes it even more special for me. We missed you during the premiere. Hoping to meet and work with you again very soon,” said Rituparna.
Ferdous and Rituparna’s friendship dates back to their work in the 2001 film Ostad, and even earlier to Ferdous’s debut in Hothat Brishti (1998), directed by Basu Chatterjee– a film that won him the National Film Award for Best Actor and cemented his cross-border stardom.
Over the past 26 years, they’ve shared not just screen space but personal bonds– visiting each other’s homes and maintaining warm ties between their families.
While the poem has reignited interest in Ferdous, his current whereabouts remain unknown. Multiple sources, however, confirm that the former MP is now spending his time writing.
In an industry where actors often fade into silence during political turmoil, Ferdous has chosen a quieter, more poetic voice. Whether it signals a comeback or just a gesture of enduring friendship, one thing is clear– his words still carry weight, even from the shadows.
Ferdous, who studied Journalism in the Dhaka University, had started his career as a ramp model.
