Four killed in Cumilla road crash identified as members of same family

Four people were killed as a cement-laden lorry overturned onto a private car on Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Paduar Bazar area of Cumilla district on Friday noon.

All the deceased were members of a family and passengers of the car, police said.

Witnesses said the fatal accident took place around 12:30pm in front of Palli Bidyut Samiti office.

The deceased were identified as Omar Ali, 80, his wife Nurjahan Begum, 65, and their sons Abul Hashem, 50, and Abul Kashem, 45, of Hosenpur village in Barura Upazila of the district.

Abul Hashem was driving the car when they met with the tragic accident.

Sub-Inspector Anisur Rahman of Moynamoti Crossing Highway Police Station confirmed the incident.

Police said the lorry lost control and turned turtle while trying to cross a passenger bus coming from the wrong direction.

“Four people of the car died on the spot,” says a police officer.

An auto-rickshaw also got collided with the overturned lorry, leaving its three passengers injured.

The injured were rushed to Cumilla Medical College Hospital.

Iqbal Bahar Majumder, officer-in-charge of Moynamoti Highway Police Station, said the bodies were taken to the police station.
