Four people were killed and two others injured when a covered van crashed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Barachala area of Kaliakair upazila, Gazipur, on Friday afternoon.
The accident took place on the Kaliakair-Maona regional road.
Among the deceased, a man, his wife, and their son were reported to be from the same family. The detailed information about the victims have not been immediately disclosed.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when the Kaliakair-bound CNG-run autorickshaw, carrying several passengers, collided with the covered van coming from the opposite direction, leaving two passengers died on the spot, while three others were injured.
Later, the injured were rescued and were taken to the Kaliakair Upazila Health Complex, where two of the injured succumbed to their injuries at the hospital, bringing the death toll to four.
Mohammad Suruj Uz Zaman, sub-inspector (SI) of the Fulbaria Police Camp under Kaliakair Police Station, confirmed the deaths.
“Four people lost their lives in the collision, three of them from the same family,” he said. The covered van involved in the incident has been seized, and legal action is being taken in the incident.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the cause of the collision.
