A tragic incident occurred on July 25, 2025, when a portion of a government school building collapsed during school hours in Piplodi village, Jhalawar district, Rajasthan. At least four children were confirmed dead, and 17 others were injured, several of whom are in critical condition. Approximately 40 students were present in the classroom at the time of the collapse.
The single-storey Government Higher Primary School building, which had been in a dilapidated state, reportedly showed signs of wear. Heavy rainfall in the preceding days is believed to have weakened the structure, leading to the tragic collapse.
Rescue operations were swiftly launched, with local residents, school staff, and emergency teams working together to extricate those trapped under the rubble. The injured children were quickly transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma expressed his condolences over the loss of young lives and assured the public that a high-level inquiry would be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse. He directed officials to provide immediate medical care to the injured and ensure proper support for the affected families.
Education Minister Madan Dilawar also expressed his sorrow and announced that a thorough investigation would be carried out. He called for urgent measures to assess the condition of school buildings across the state and prevent such incidents from occurring again.
This incident has sparked political debates regarding the safety and maintenance of school infrastructure in Rajasthan, with several voices calling for urgent reforms to improve the structural integrity of educational facilities in the state.
