A Narayanganj court has granted two days’ remand for Dr Selina Hayat Ivy, former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation and ex-senior vice-president of the district Awami League.

On Sunday afternoon, Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Nur Mohsin approved the remand order. The decision came after police initially sought a 7-day remand, but the court reduced it to two days following hearings.

Court Police Inspector Md Kaiyum Khan stated the remand was granted in connection with the Minarul murder case filed at Siddhirganj Police Station during the anti-discrimination student movement.

Narayanganj District Police had arrested Ivy on May 9 from the Deobhog area of the city in relation to the Minarul murder case. She was subsequently sent to jail by District Senior Judicial Magistrate Moinuddin Kadir’s court.

Ivy currently faces six separate cases across Siddhirganj and Fatullah police stations related to murder and attempted murder charges.
