A court in Dhaka has imposed a travel ban on former foreign minister Dr Hasan Mahmud and his wife Nuran Fatema over acquiring illegal wealth of Tk6.63 crore.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order on Monday as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) pleaded in this regard.

In addition, the court also ordered to freeze nine bank accounts of Hasan Mahmud and 12 bank accounts of his wife over the same allegations.

It also ordered to seize a SUV belonging to the former minister.

Earlier on April 6, ACC filed two separate cases against the couple over amassment of illegal wealth of Tk6.63 crore and suspicious transactions of Tk722 crore.

Former foreign minister Hasan Mahmud was detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) on August 6 last year while attempting to depart the country.
