In a case of verdict forgery filed at Shahbagh Police Station, former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque has been ordered to be sent to jail following his remand.

The court made the decision after a hearing on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier, Khairul Haque was presented in court by the investigation officer of the case, Inspector Khalek Mia of Shahbagh Police Station, after completing his seven-day remand. The officer requested the court to keep Khairul Haque in jail, stating that during the remand, Haque was intensively interrogated, and various pieces of evidence related to the case were examined.

However, he refused to provide a confessional statement in court. Since the investigation is still ongoing, the officer argued that keeping him in jail was necessary, with the court granting the request.

Previously, on July 30, Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Channawullah had granted Haque a seven-day remand. The case was filed on August 27, 2024, by Supreme Court lawyer Muhammed Mujahidul Islam at Shahbagh Police Station, under sections 219 and 466 of the Penal Code.

The complaint alleges that the former chief justice had changed a verdict motivated by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and the prospect of post-retirement placement, publishing the final ruling on September 16, 2012.

On July 24, Khairul Haque was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of Police from a residence in Dhanmondi and later sent to jail on charges that claim his involvement in the murder of a teenager.
