Flight Lieutenant Towkir Islam Sagar, who tragically lost his life in a fighter jet crash in Uttara, was laid to rest on Tuesday.
His second namaz-e-janaza was held at 4:30pm at the Rajshahi Liberation War Memorial Stadium. Later, Towkir was laid to rest at the adjacent Sapura graveyard in the city.
Thousands of people, including Commissioner of Rajshahi Division Khandaker Azim Ahmed, Police Commissioner Md Abu Sufian, former Mayor of Rajshahi City and BNP Central Committee Forest and Environment Affairs Secretary Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, participated in the funeral prayer.
Earlier, at around 2:55pm, Towkir’s body was flown from Dhaka to Rajshahi Cantonment by a Bangladesh Air Force helicopter.
Following official procedures, his body was taken by ambulance at 3:20pm to his family’s rented residence in Sector 3 of Upashahar in Rajshahi, accompanied by officers from the Army and Air Force.
Meanwhile, a funeral parade and prayer were held for Flight Lieutenant Towkir Islam at the Kurmitola Airbase in Dhaka on Tuesday, with Home Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury and the heads of the three armed forces in attendance.
On Monday afternoon (July 21), Flight Lieutenant Towkir was killed when a fighter aircraft crashed into a building of Milestone School and College in Uttara.
Many students from the school were also killed or injured in the tragic incident.
