The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is now investigating a total of 16 officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) over allegations of corruption and irregularities.
In its latest move, the ACC has launched fresh inquiries against five additional revenue officials, according to a press release issued by its public relations department.
The newly listed officials are Kazi Mohammad Ziauddin, commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT (Dhaka East); Md Kamruzzaman, commissioner at Benapole Land Port; Md Mamun Mia, deputy tax commissioner of Circle-7 in Rajshahi; Sehela Siddika, additional tax commissioner at the Income Tax Intelligence Unit; and Lokman Ahmed, tax inspector at Dhaka Tax Zone-2.
Earlier, on 29 June and 1 July, the ACC had opened investigations against six NBR officials, several of whom were active members of the NBR Reform Unity Council, a group that spearheaded recent protests over structural reforms within the tax administration.
This was followed by another round of investigations targeting five more NBR personnel.
With the latest addition, the ACC’s ongoing anti-graft drive now encompasses 16 NBR officials, signalling intensified scrutiny of the revenue agency’s internal operations.
