Five members of the same family including three children sustained severe burn injuries after a gas leak caused a fire in their home at Kanchpur, Narayanganj, early Thursday morning.

They were later admitted to National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka.

The accident occurred around 5:30am on the ground floor of a three-storey building in the BSCIC area under Sonargaon Police Station.

The victims were identified as Manab Chowdhury, 40, his wife Bacha Chowdhury, 38, and their daughters—Munni, 14, Chunni, 12, and six-year-old Mouri.

Neighbour Sabinoy Das, who helped rescue the family, said they lived in a rented flat on the ground floor. “As soon as the stove was lit for cooking, a powerful explosion rocked the house. We rushed to the scene after hearing their screams, put out the flames, and brought them out of the burning room,” he told reporters.

Doctors at the burn institute confirmed that all five victims are currently under treatment at the emergency department.
