Five more officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) have come under investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), bringing the total number of NBR officials facing graft probes to 16.
The officials under investigation are Commissioner of Customs, Excise and VAT in Dhaka East Kazi Mohammad Ziauddin, Commissioner at Benapole Land Port Md Kamruzzaman, Deputy Tax Commissioner of Circle-7 in Rajshahi Md Mamun Mia, Additional Tax Commissioner at the Income Tax Intelligence Unit Sehela Siddika, and Tax Inspector at Dhaka Tax Zone-2 Lokman Ahmed.
The ACC’s public relations department disclosed the names on Thursday.
Earlier, on June 29 and July 1, ACC initiated investigations against six NBR officials, most of whom were linked to the NBR Reform Unity Council – a group that recently staged protests demanding reforms and policy overhauls.
That was followed by another batch of five officials placed under scrutiny, before the ACC expanded its list again this week.
The widening net reflects the commission’s intensified oversight of the revenue sector amid rising concerns over corruption, irregularities, and internal unrest within the country’s top tax authority.
