Fishing turns fatal for Feni man amid floods

A 62-year-old man died after getting entangled in his own fishing net while trying to catch fish in floodwaters in Fulgazi upazila of Feni. The incident occurred early Thursday, and his body was recovered later that afternoon from the Bandua Daulatpur area.

The deceased, Nurul Alam, was the son of Bir Muktijoddha (freedom fighter) Sadeq Commander, a resident of the same area.

According to local sources, Nurul Alam had gone out after fajr prayers to retrieve a current net he had set in the floodwaters near his home. He reportedly became accidentally trapped in the net, which led to his death as he struggled to free himself.

Fakhrul Alam Swapan, a neighbour, said that Nurul Alam had been suffering from fever for several days and had previously suffered a stroke. “After he went missing for the whole day, his family eventually found his body near the house in the afternoon. His tragic death has cast a shadow of grief over the entire area,” he said.

Fulgazi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Fahriya Islam confirmed the incident, saying , “We were informed about the incident at night. Such a tragic death is truly unfortunate.”
