A fish trader was killed after being hit by a private car in the Uttara Azampur area of the capital early Saturday.
The deceased, Yusuf Hossain, 32, of Noapara village in Mymensingh’s Gauripur upazila, was identified by his brother-in-law, Saidul Islam.
Yusuf had been living with his family in the Dewan Bari area of Azampur, Saidul said.
Quoting police Saidul said Yusuf was crossing the road under the Azampur BNS flyover around 3:30am when a private car hit him and fled the scene.
Locals rescued him and took him to a nearby hospital before he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). When Yusuf was taken to DMCH, doctors declared him dead around 5:30am, he said.
Inspector Md Faruk, in charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the death, adding that the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy.
