A massive fire swept through Sebarhat Bazar, one of the main commercial hubs in Senbag, Noakhali, early Sunday, destroying more than 30 shops, including production facilities.

The blaze broke out around 12:15am at Mohib Ullah’s plywood factory in the market. Affected traders claimed losses could exceed Tk 100 crore.

Five firefighting units from Senbag, Noakhali, and Feni, assisted by army personnel, police, and locals, battled the flames for about three hours before bringing the fire under control around 3am.

Witnesses said the fire spread rapidly with loud explosions, engulfing the entire plywood factory and nearby shops, along with several banks and insurance offices.

Fire Service officials said the cause of the fire and the exact extent of the damage could not be determined immediately.

On June 25, another fire triggered by an electrical short circuit in a different part of the market destroyed eight shops, causing an estimated loss of Tk 50 lakh, according to the Fire service.
